Biden reelection campaign enlists January 6 police officers to campaign in key swing states

(CNN) The Biden reelection campaign has enlisted three police officers – all of whom were working at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, when rioters overtook the building – to stump for Biden across battleground states in the coming weeks, the campaign told CNN. Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, Officer Harry Dunn and Officer Danny Hodges plan to tell voters across key swing states that former President Donald Trump poses a threat to democracy and to their fundamental rights as Americans. Dunn and Gonell sustained injuries during the attack on the Capitol and have since retired from the Capitol Police. Hodges continues to serve with DC’s Metropolitan Police Department.

Congress defies its own law, fails to install plaque honoring Jan. 6 police officers

(CBS News) "My letters have not been answered. And it's a mystery to me," Lofgren said, throwing her hands up in frustration as she spoke with CBS News just off the U.S. House floor a few days ago. Lofgren and a group of other top House Democrats are questioning why a small plaque to honor police officers who saved the Capitol — and the lawmakers and staffers working there — on Jan. 6, 2021 was not completed or installed by the March 2023 deadline required by law.

This gathering was part of an effort to strengthen bonds between President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and U.P. voters.

Biden To Speak After The Jury Hands Down Their Verdict In Trump's Trial

(PoliticusUSA) At some point, likely this week, the jury will be handed the case in the Trump hush money trial, and those jurors will return a verdict. It is predictable what defendant Donald Trump will say. Either Trump will proclaim that the trial was a rigged Biden conspiracy, or he will say that the jury was a group of brilliant people who found him innocent. What Trump says won’t matter. Anyone who has been watching and listening to Trump can probably script out in advance what Trump is going to say. The interesting reaction to the case will come from President Biden, who, according to Politico, will be delivering remarks from the White House after the verdict is announced

Democratic group targets Texas state House races, seeking to take advantage of GOP feuds

(NBC News) The national Democratic super PAC Forward Majority plans to spend more than $2 million on Texas state House races this year, the group’s officials told NBC News, as they seek to take advantage of Republican infighting to cut into the party’s advantage in the chamber. The group said ongoing feuds in the state — with leading Texas Republicans and former President Donald Trump campaigning against the party’s incumbent lawmakers who voted to impeach state Attorney General Ken Paxton or against Gov. Greg Abbott’s school voucher program — are pushing the GOP’s candidates to the right and creating an opening for Democrats in the traditionally red state.

The Untold Story of the Network That Took Down Roe v. Wade

(NY Times) Nine days after Donald Trump won the 2016 election, the halls of the Mayflower Hotel, just blocks from the White House, were adorned with twinkling Christmas lights and abuzz with the possibilities of a future that had changed overnight. Hillary Clinton, the woman the anti-abortion movement feared more than perhaps anyone, had failed to win the presidency. And Leo and the conservative legal movement that he worked for years to create were about to reclaim power. With that power would come the chance to do what seemed unthinkable until this moment: strategize to take down Roe v. Wade.

Still no Melania at Trump trial as closing arguments begin

(Raw Story) Former President Donald Trump will be joined in court on Tuesday by his two eldest sons as closing arguments at his hush-money trial are scheduled to begin. However, there is still no sign of Melania Trump. NewsNation's Libbey Dean reports that Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump will be Manhattan with their father on Tuesday, as will daughter Tiffany Trump and daughter-in-law Lara Trump. Notably absent, however, is Melania Trump, who has completely stayed away from the trial and has been almost completely absent from the campaign trail throughout the 2024 presidential race.
